UP-CGG was founded on July 14, 2002 by a group of mass communication students led
by Broadcast Communication alumnus Ralph Guzman. Graduating cum laude in 2003, he now works
for GMA-7 as a news reporter.
Until 2004, UP-CGG was dubbed as the
‘fastest-growing’organization based in the College of Mass Communication. It has then a total of 50 members who included
not only mass communication students. There were also students who came
from degree programs whose focus is on issues related to governance and
society, such as Public Administration, Political Science, Statistics,
and even Business Administration.
In 2005, the UP-CGG sustained its place in the
College as both a university and college-recognized organization. This
was the time when UP-CGG’s leadership was
shared during the whole academic year by Broadcast Communication students
Iona Joy Santos and Jazper Tiongson,
who are now both working in their chosen fields in the mass media
industry.
The year 2006 was seen to
be a promising year for UP-CGG.
Charissa Cortuna, a
BA Communication Research student, led the organization as it braved the
challenges it has faced. UP-CGG
managed to tie up with other organizations in CMC, including the College
Student Council, to continue fulfilling its mission.
Today, UP-CGG takes pride
in its 22 members led by senior Journalism student Penelope Iole Endozo. They are all
committed to projects in line with the organization’s thrusts and goals.
